Being an athlete is a life changing experience. It's filled with meeting new people, getting exercise, being active in your school community, and forming long lasting bonds with the people that you share the field, court, or track with. However, if you play a sport on a field, chances are your cleats are going to get dirty. Muddy cleats are the absolute bane of any outdoor athlete existence. They're an absolute nuisance when wet because they're hard to clean, and track dirt everywhere when they're dry. Fortunately, there is now a solution; the Kleat Kleaner. The Kleat Kleaner is a small and portable device that helps scrape some of the dirt and grime off of any cleats with ease.

Our History
As a soccer player myself, I struggled with muddy cleats and tracking dirt, mud, grass, turf beads, and even small rocks inside. (My mother still hasn't forgiven me for scuffing the wooden floors in my room.) For a while, I talked and listened to to my friends on my soccer team about dirty cleats. Some girls brought plastic bags to put their cleats in after practice, and some just took off their cleats in favor of putting on slides or Crocs and left their cleats on newspaper to dry and attempted to scrape the muck off later on. I decided that I didn't like this, and racked my brain trying to find a solution. Finally, I was watching a clip from the anime Naruto Shippuden and I saw what is called a kunai. A kunai is a small Japanese knife with a circular handle and a pointed edge that is used in combat.
KLEAT KLEANER IN ACTION
In this section, I've attached a video of me using the Kleat Kleaner on a dirty pair of cleats for you to see how it works.
A few post-video notes;
- The shoe cleaning process itself doesn't take very long, it's just that the grime on the bottom of the cleats needs to be slightly damp.
- I know that the Kleaner possibly taking a bit of time to clean off cleats may be a catch; however when factored in that the only other way to clean cleats is waiting until it dries and banging them together and thus making cleats dull and less able to pierce the ground, a period of time spent putting in some elbow grease is a much better alternative.
